Duterte tells Abe: Let's work together for more stable, secured region

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte made the appeal at the summit meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe for intensified cooperation to ensure that the both country would enjoy “more peace, progress and prosperity.”

"Let us continue to work together to achieve goals of a more stable and secured region so that our nations and peoples can enjoy more peace, progress and prosperity," the President told Abe.
Prime Minister Abe was the first foreign leader Duterte hosted since he becomes the president of the Philippines.

According to President Duterte, Abe’s official visit to the country demonstrated "the shared commitment to further strengthen our important and valued strategic partnership."

"This include among others intensifying trade and investments, bolstering defense, securing just and lasting peace and development in Mindanao, strengthening law enforcement against criminality and ensuring maritime safety and security."

Prime Minister Abe cited that he decided to choose Philippines as the first country to visit this year to emphasize the bilateral relationship between the two countries.

"Together with you, I am committed to elevating our bilateral relationship to a higher ground covering a wide-range of areas," Abe said
