Duterte on Maute-ISIS: Matindi, talagang matindi

President Rodrigo Duterte in a speech in Cagayan de Oro City, admitted that he didn’t expect the Maute group to be this tough and deadly in battle.
“Itong Maute pati ano, matindi, talagang matindi.

The military reported that 65 soldiers have died in the ongoing war to retake Marawi City from Maute who were backed up by Abu Sayyaf and ISIS.

But Duterte was adamant he didn’t want to declare martial law.

Mahirapan tayo.” Said Duterte.

Meanwhile, Duterte said that he was awestruck by the bravery of the soldiers who were willing to sacrifice their lives to retake Marawi City from the terrorists.

“Ako bilib ako sa inyo. Sasaludo ako. Yes, sir. Ang bigat ninyo.” Duterte said.

While he was the first to cheer them for wanting to return to battle, the president said he was also the first feel grief for those who died.

“I want to just express to them my sincerest condolence. At ako man ang unang nasasaktan diyan. Ako yung Commander- in Chief ninyo,” he said.

Duterte said he wanted to visit each of the fallen heroes but he was too busy overseeing the Mindanao crisis.

He said.
