Hontiveros was arrested during the 2006 International Women’s Day

Member of the Liberal Party, Senator Risa Hontiveros was arrested by policemen during the 2006 International Women's Day while negotiating with police to allow her and the women members of the Alliance of Progressive Labor (APL) to conduct their peaceful march in celebration of the International Women’s Day.

Rep. Risa Hontiveros filed charges against those arresting police officers in civilian clothes in the police headquarters in Camp Karingal.
Hontiveros was with about 1,000 other members of the Akbayan and the Alliance of Progressive Labor when arrested by anti-riot policewomen and taken to a van. She was to be taken to police headquarters in Camp Karingal.

The arrest came during a police dispersal of the protesters who failed to produce a permit to hold a rally, reports said.

“They will bodily lifting me from the mobile…so at that point ang sabi ko, ‘punyeta’  hindi ako bata wag niyo akong bubuhatin… so she let go of my legs.. So I stack my leg out to prevent them from closing the door.” Hontiveros citing from the Congress.
