Jim Paredes thanked Duterte for free tuition fee: "Salamat President Duterte"

Legendary OPM artist Jim Paredes is a very vocal critic of President Rodrigo Duterte's controversial policies and boorish behavior.
It was a different mood on social media on August 4 as netizens saw the songwriter addressing Duterte.

Jim Paredes went on Twitter to thank President Duterte for signing Republic Act 110931 also known as the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act.

This is a somewhat unexpected act for Jim Paredes, who’s been critical of the president’s policies and attitude since Duterte took power.

He has criticized Duterte for declaring Martial Law in Mindanao as well as his off-color jokes which many have deemed inappropriate.

Deputy Executive Secretary Menardo Guevarra made the announcement regarding the new law.

“Free tertiary education in SUCs is a very strong pillar or cornerstone of the President’s social development policy.” Guevarra said.

“He weighed everything and came to the conclusion that the long-term benefits that will be derived from the well-developed tertiary education on the part of the citizenry will definitely outweigh any short-term budgetary challenges.” Guevarra added.

Paredes also also thanked Senator Paolo Benigno “Bam” Aquino IV for writing the bill.

Paredes commended both politicians, saying “cooperation, inclusivity, good intentions make things possible.”

#librengEdukasyonNa, Salamat President Duterte and Senator Bam Aquino. Cooperation, inclusivity, goo intentions make things possible.

  2. Lokatme, thanked Duterte only but not the proponent of the law which is Bam and the origin of the idea that was taken from Bong Bong Marcos when in Senate.
